62. [ RL with John ]

[ Nena's sitting in the lounge by the main departures board of the AEU Orbital Elevator drinking a coffee that's more sugar than drink, when she realizes she's just bullied a kid into letting her give him a tour. Wait, what? Seriously, what?

No, no, the goal was to totally freak him out by showing him space and the future and stuff! Which... he'll probably think is totally cool. What just happened and when did it happen??

Well, WHATEVER. She'd totally boss him around and freak him out, SO THERE. Little weirdo. ]

[ FOR ONCE IN HER LIFE SHE DID NOT MEAN IT INAPPROPRIATELY because he's like ten okay? okay. ]

You know, people always like, say they're gonna explode from excitement, but I think you could actually do it! Except don't, cause then I'd have to clean up John-guts, and it would be gross.

[ She drags him past a sign down a corridor; if he thinks to read it, he'll notice it says "Observation Deck" ]

Haha, really gross! Don't worry, I am not going to excitementsplode on you. I promise!

[He does read it, because he's looking all over the place while he gets pulled along, and his scepticism is starting to get sucked away so he decides to speak up,] Uh, okay, so this is either a really awesome and elaborate set-up, or I am really in space, and both of those are cool, but I am not really sure how to react to the second one!

Try not to hurl! Oh my god, okay, why are we talking about gross stuff?? It'll just hit you like BAM, and then you'll react! Simple.

[ Through an automatic door, there's space.

Well, not right away. There's a lounge, with comfy couches and chairs, and a kiosk selling star maps in twelve languages, but mostly what you notice is the wide picture windows (that are two feet thick) that open out onto the vastness of space.

Faced with this glory and majesty, Nena slurps the bottom of her drink through her straw and tosses it in the direction of a recycle bin. It kind of floats vaguely towards it, because apparently the designers of the elevator thought lowered gravity was essential for the experience. ]

W-well, yeah, but, I mean, I don't think it's that--

[And then there is space. And John cuts himself off with a little squeak.]

... Uh, wow. Is that-- wow. Er, is that really space? Like, I am in space right now? Because that isn't really possible. At all. Uh, and, actually, neither was that thing Shiro did before, and other worlds, and stuff. And. Um, I think I am freaking out a little bit! Or-- or, a lot!

[ she puts a hand on his back and shoves him toward the window; because of the reduced gravity he'll just kind of roll on over through the air ]

Yep, that's space! I told you I was gonna blow your mind!

[And he does kind of roll on over through the air, and while he's not flailing about or anything yet, his expression is pretty freaked out and pretty much conveys wild flailing without any actual movement.]

Oh my God. Uh, yeah, I guess my mind is pretty blown. Um. Can you come here and pinch me? Because, I'm just saying, this should not be happening. Or possible! This is pretty hard to believe, you know!

[ She kicks off from the floor, floats over to him, and smacks him in the back of the head.

Nena is nothing if not helpful. ]

[He yelps and just... floats forward. And flails about like a goof because he's kind of worried that he'll end up upside-down.]

Ow! Nenaaaa! You could have just pinched me, you know.

I wanted to see if I could get you to go upside down! [ She floats over to the window, coming neatly to rest sitting on the cushioned window seat ]

I dunno why everyone always acts so silly when they get up here! Isn't it a total pain to live in gravity all the time?

Can I really go upside-down? [That sounds sort of cool if he's doing it intentionally, so he tries to do somersaults. And fails miserably.]

Um, well, I've lived in gravity for thirteen years! So, no? Isn't it a total pain not to live in gravity all the time? Everything is all... floaty.

[ She pushes off the wall to do a perfect somersault because she likes showing off. :3 ]

Well it's not always super low gravity like this, sometimes it's just partial! And sometimes it's full gravity. You can do things like play space Quidditch, which is totally awesome!

Aw, man, how do you do that? [He tries and sort of just ends up going halfway, staying upside-down, which... okay, is still the collest thing ever, this is awesome. And then he's not entirely sure how to get upright again so he just talks to her from down there.]

Like, Harry Potter Quidditch? Oh, that is so cool. Holy shit, do you seriously live here? Sooooo cool! Oh man, I'm in space! I am really in space right now, this is-- [And then he starts laughing because he is a dork who likes to quote cool Dave memes,] I'm telling you, gravity like that is unreal, it doesn't even happen! Most of the time, haha.

[ she pushes him right side up, maybe a little harder than need be so he ends up spinning around a bit ]

Yeah, me and my brother took some of the Haros and whacked them around! [ she mimes swinging a bat, including the twisty motions she has to do with her lower half to keep from becoming a victim of momentum ]

And I don't live here this is for tourists! I live on a colony, but like the guy who runs it is super strict so we can't really have visitors. So that's why we're here, instead!

[WHOOPS he goes upright but then a little too far and bumps his head on the window hard enough to elicit a yelp and a pained little whine.]

Ow. Um. Oh. I wish I could see where you live, but I guess if you can't have visitors, then there's no way. Besides, this is awesome enough! I am actually in space. Wow. Oh man, floating like this is the coolest, I wish I could just do this all the time! Whenever I wanted, just whoooosh!

[Did somebody order some FORESHADOWING?]

You're gonna kill yourself unless I give you a lesson in floating around, aren't you.

Uh. Not... if I stay away from walls and the floor and pretty much everything else in the room? [Pause.] ... Can I maaaaybe get a lesson? Heh.

You wouldn't be as much fun if you died! Hmmm... [ she's rotating a bit on the spot, trying to figure out how to explain something she does naturally ] A lot of it's just like, physics or whatever! Whichever direction you start going in you just keep going in. So you don't have to kick off of stuff super hard or you're gonna crack your skull.

So, I should just do it lightly? [He kicks off the wall gently and it sends him floating along a fair way but not too fast, thankfully.] Pchooooo! Haha, this is so awesome!

Pchooooo? [ she considers that. It is a good sound effect. She'll have to use it. ]

Okay, first test! Figure out how to stop!

[OH GOD WHAT. Nobody said there would be tests!!!]

Um! How to-- stop? Uhhhh-- [He tries to lean towards his feet, the opposite direction of the way he's moving in, and ends up going into a really bad, clumsy somersault.]

[ she GIGGLES MADLY as he rolls through the air ] Bzzzzzt! Try again!

What! But-- I sort of stopped! I'm not going that way any more, at least. Also, now I think I am stuck.

[And he sort of is, because there's nothing near enough for him to kick off and he's not too good at moving on his own yet.]

Try flailing around! It'll totally click! [ also it'll be hilarious and silly ]

[Because John is stupid and gullible and trusts Nena far too much already, he... flails around.]

I don't think this is really helping! Don't I need momentum or something?

That's cause you've gotta do it more! The more you move, the more momentum you have! [ she's in a gigglefit again... she can teach him properly after he stops rolling around like a turtle on his back. ]
