RL with Mikaela: the 'Tieria's a Dick' club
Nena was sat at the table, chin in her hands, staring at the cake.
He must have snuck in last night somehow and left it there. It didn't seem like the kind of thing someone who would pull a dick move like leaving right on your birthday would do. And plus, she was pretty sure he didn't even like her.
It was pink, and had pink writing, and some kind of sparkling sprinkles on it. It was exactly the sort of cake Nena would have wanted, if she'd gotten one herself. It even had strawberry ice cream in.
But he didn't even like her.
And so she sat there, confused and upset and angry, glaring at the cake as if she was going to set it on fire with her eyes.

Finally, she flopped down on the couch, crossing her legs and watching Nena's turned back curiously.

"See... he's just sitting there, and then--" she let it play again-- "now he's gone! One frame to the next! The timestamp doesn't change or anything..." She sat back on her heels with a frustrated sigh.

"Maybe he had help...?" she mused. "I mean, he might not be magic, but there's plenty of people on the comm who are."

She shrugged. "Maybe he was that desperate?" she suggested. It made her frown, though--he couldn't be desperate to get away from here, from her, could he? No, that couldn't be it. "Or maybe he has friends we didn't know about, or something..."

She wished Johann were there. He would have told her what was right. But that was another thing, wasn't it? Don't get attached to anyone other than your brothers, because you never know when you might have to kill them. And then he'd gone and died, and Michael had almost done, so anyone could die, anyone, so don't get too close--
In the end she just scowled at the floor and kicked the television remote so hard it left a dent in the wall, which pretty accurately summed up her feelings.

"I don't know...don't know what it's like, to think like that," she admitted quietly, realizing after the bang from the remote's impact made her jump that Nena wasn't going to say anything further. "I mean, I've never had to...to fight, or anything, except the cops that one time when I was a kid and then...the 'Cons. And it's pretty obvious when they're around, y'know? Can't really mistake them for, like, people."v

She joined Mikaela on the couch, letting Haro free to fly around the room. She swung her legs a bit, then admitted, "But there's people I don't think I-- I mean. If I had to shoot them, it'd be hard."

Especially not a human. She hadn't had any trouble slicing Frenzy's head off, when she had to.

"Hey, how much did Tieria ever tell you about what we do? Since you two are like best friends or whatever."

Mikaela flopped back against the couch, watching her pace around with a thoughtful expression on her face. "Maybe there's other stuff he's worried about? Like, not fighting...?" she suggested, knowing it was pretty weak as she said it.
